Words, are more than we often think because we lost the knowledge of how they were derived

Anglish is a constructed language that imagines what English would be like without borrowed words from foreign languages.
So instead of saying “Grammar” a word that has French roots, in Anglish you might say “Speechcraft”, or instead of saying “Dictionary”, which has Latin roots, in Anglish you would say “Wordbook”, which has Germanic roots.
Many think Anglish is how the English language would have turned out if the English had won against the Normans in the 1066 battle of Hastings.
Though the desire to not use French words in English likely dates as far back as 1066, the term “Anglish” was made up by author Paul Jennings in 1966, nine hundred years after the fateful battle.
